Holding an event
These events are great for involving the whole school in celebrating LGBT+ equality.
If you’ve got a Community Action Team or a keen set of student leaders, share these ideas and let us know any others they have.
Many of these ideas can easily be turned into fundraising events to support our work tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
Organise a diversity themed non-uniform day during the week.
Arrange for pupils to walk to school together or hold a march around the school site.
Make a post box from a cardboard box and set it up in the canteen. Leave paper and pens out for pupils and staff to write messages of support for LGBT+ young people.
Make a rainbow competition
Challenge pupils to create rainbows with any material during the week, and share their creations on social media.
A bit more effort
Sticker or badge making competition
Task pupils with designing a School Diversity Week sticker or badge to be worn during the week.
Organise a sporting event and wear rainbow sports clothes.
Invite an external LGBT+ speaker or give an openly LGBT+ student the chance to share their own experience.
Organise a LGBT+ cinema event with rainbow themed refreshments.
Get a group of pupils together to make bracelets or another simple craft item, to sell around the school.
Going for it!
Dragons Den fundraising
Challenge pupils to generate ideas for fundraising during School Diversity Week and develop a presentation to pitch to “Teacher Dragons”.
Challenge pupils to make outfits representing diversity and authenticity. Hold a fashion show to celebrate them.
Great rainbow bake off
Hold a competition for the best rainbow themed cake - maybe even invite in a judge from a local restaurant!
